Common Names : Yellow bells, Trumpet flower

Flowering Period : Throughout the year

Distribution : Native of South America; now widely cultivated

Habitat : Grown as garden plant

Uses : Ornamental. Roots are reported to be diuretic, tonic, anti-syphilitic and vermifuge. Decoction of flowers and bark are used for stomach pains.

Key Characters :

Large shrub to small trees, glabrous. Leaves opposite, pinnate, leaflets elliptic to elliptic-ovate. Flowers in short terminal panicles, bright yellow, fragrant. Calyx tubular-campanulate; lobes triangular, acuminate. Corolla; lobes subequal. Stamens included; anther cells 2, linear; staminodes filiform. Disc shallow cupular, 5-lobed, fleshy. Ovary, elongated, minutely papillose; stigma 2-lobed, lobes oval. Fruit is a Capsule.
