Population Research Centre (PRC)
Year of Establishment : 1958

The roles of PRC are multidimensional focusing the planning of population ,health and family welfare programmes through survey research . The research findings are  being incorporated in  population policy formulation  and midcourse corrections of ongoing programmes like National Rural Health Mission (NRHM),Reproductive and Child Health etc. of Govt of India. The research includes proposal formulation, design of sampling, training /capacity building, data collection, supervision, monitoring , analysis and report writing. The inferences have been used  for planning and implementation of   policies and programmes related to population and health of  the state and nation.
The activities include
a) To conduct  need based studies on health & family   welfare aspects at state     level
b) To conduct concurrent evaluation of health & family welfare programmes
c) To conduct Rapid appraisal of health & family welfare programmes
d) To understand the needs of community on health & family welfare
e) To study the socio-economic ,demographic characteristics of the population
f)  To conduct  the facility surveys and evaluation of training centres
g) To provide base line and end line data sets on health & family welfare   aspects

The centre was successful in establishing research linkages with Directorate of Health services ,Govt of Kerala; International Institute for Population Sciences ,Mumbai; ORC-Macro International; National Commission on Population, Govt of India;DST, Govt of India ; Department of Economics and Statistics, Govt of Kerala and Department of Social welfare, Govt of Kerala through its  fifty years of population and health research.
