The University of Kerala is proud to celebrate its Platinum Jubilee in 2012.
It was on 1st November 1937, that this centre of learning was established as the University of Travancore, through a Royal promulgation of His Highness Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the last Maharaja of the erstwhile princely State of Travancore. The University, which was renamed University of Kerala in 1957, after the formation of the State of Kerala, has moulded millions of students into professionals in their respective fields. Many alumni of the University have adorned significant positions in various fields all over the world. The University was fortunate enough to have in its rolls, eminent Statesmen like former President Shri.K.R.Narayanan. Over the last seven and a half decades, this 'Mother University' has earned a special place in the minds of the people as Kerala's Alma Mater .
The Syndicate of the University of Kerala has decided to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the University in a befitting manner. Academic initiatives, developmental activities, student welfare schemes, foreign collaborations, arts and sports festivals, seminars, lectures and ahost of other programmes would be organised to mark the occasion.
The University has already invited proposals for a logo of the celebrations. The selected logo will receive a cash prize.
The University also views the Platinum Jubilee as an occasion for a reunion of the alumni of the University. The Syndicate invites valuable suggestions and active cooperation of the alumni in the celebrations.
