The Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology was formally inaugurated in the University of Kerala as part of the ‘Suvarna Kerala’ celebrations on 12th December 2006 by the Hon’ble Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, Sri. M.Vijayakumar.  The centre was started with the  aim of   offering academic programmes  in the emerging area of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology  and establishment of state-of-the-art laboratories for research in the area of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, in-depth research work and thereby generation of manpower in this area. The first academic programme, M.Phil course in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, was started on 12th December 2007. The formal inauguration of the M.Phil programme was held on 25-02-2008. Research work, as a part of the academic programmes of the Centre, started with the joining of three full time research scholars during the January session in 2008.
